Knee pain (stiff or swollen knees) is the most common symptom of osteoarthritis in the knee.
Osteoarthritic knee pain can make it painful for you to jog, run, climb stairs or kneel. Over time, it can change the shape of your knee joint, making your joint feel unstable or wobbly.
Our knee joints contains a small amount of a gel-like substance (joint fluid) that contains hyaluronic acid, which cushions and lubricates the joints during activity.
As we age, our natural hyaluronic acid can break down, making it a less-than effective lubricator and shock absorber.
At Family Medicine Center, Dr. Meredith Turner is treating eligible patients with hyaluronic acid injections.
The goals of treating knee osteoarthritis with hyaluronic acid injections are to:
- Reduce pain
- Improve joint movement by increasing joint lubrication and reducing joint friction and inflammation
- Perhaps slow osteoarthritis progression
